LET'S GO AFTER  MORE  BUSINESS AND JOBS

 

 

I’ve talked a lot about making Lakeshore stronger before we make it bigger, and one of the biggest parts of that for me is bringing more business and good-paying jobs here. Yes, I know Lakeshore is already working on economic development, and I’m not saying nothing is being done, but I think we can push harder. We have Highway 401 running right through our community; we’re close to the U.S. border; we have manufacturing, agriculture, and a lot of skilled people right here, so let’s use that to our advantage. I would want to know exactly what commercial and industrial land we have, what is ready to go and what still needs infrastructure, and then go out and sell Lakeshore instead of just waiting for businesses to find us. I would also sit down with the businesses that are already here and ask them what is stopping you from expanding and creating more jobs right here in Lakeshore. And then we need to measure the results. How many businesses did we attract, how many expanded, how many jobs did we create, how many new commercial and industrial assessments did we add, and what did it cost us to get there? That’s how I looked at things in business. Have a plan, measure it, and if it isn’t working, change it. I’m not against housing, and I’m not against growth, but I want jobs, businesses, and infrastructure to grow along with it. That’s what I mean when I say let’s make Lakeshore stronger before we make it bigger.
